Concrete seats on the waterfront
Concrete seats on the waterfront

Those of you who live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, have probably already noticed these cast concrete chairs right on the banks of the East River waterfront. This great example of urban furniture design has been developed and donated to the community by Tobias Reischle.
Reischle often found himself on the waterfront with no place to sit except on abandoned piers which could prove dangerous, sitting on the ground, or bringing his own camping chairs like so many other visitors.
Reischle decided to cast the chairs and donate them at his own expense to provide seating that could be enjoyed and engaged for use at the waterfront as well as other undeveloped park areas throughout the city.
Williamsburg’s residents highly appreciated the gift and soon enough Reischle’s concrete chairs with “sub t non-commissioned public furniture printed on them will be placed in various recreational areas throughout the city.
